Redlining Lab
The Redlining Lab is Kate Thomas (NYU), Thomas Storrs (University of Virginia), Wenfei Xu (UCSB), and Jacob Faber (NYU).
By linking historical Home Owners' Loan Corporation (HOLC) appraisal maps from the 1930s and 1940s to contemporary data on race, wealth, health, and opportunity, the lab investigates how mortgage discrimination inscribed in these maps continues to shape the geography of inequality in American cities.
